Future West Norwood & Future Lambeth
The Lambeth Local Plan, together with the London Mayor’s Plan forms the statutory basis for making planning applications decisions..
Lambeth is reviewing its Local Plan in consultation with local people. And this is now the last chance to have a say before the Lambeth’s draft Local Plan is independently examined by the Secretary of State for Housing, Communities &Local government (Robert Jenrick, MP for Newark, Nottinghamshire). The deadline for comments is Friday 13/3/20.
See: https://content.govdelivery.com/accounts/UKLAMBETH/bulletins/27932c6
The Local Plan is an important document for improving the supply of housing across the borough and addressing climate change: it is 544 pages and covers lots of detail.
Policy PN7 is the overall policy for West Norwood/Tulse on page 430 and promises Norwood High Street will get its own Special Planning Document later this year as the West Norwood Creative Business Cluster. Policy ED3 is Key Industrial business Areas – KIBAs on page 132 & 476. In light of the numerous local Thames Water leaks, Policy EN6, on page 245, on drainage and water management will be of interest to West Norwood residents.
Comments on the draft Lambeth Local Plan can be emailed to: localplan@lambeth.gov.uk by the 13th March deadline.

Clean air buses
London Mayor Sadiq Khan is cleaning up London’s bus routes. In West Norwood our #2, #415 and #249 buses are some of the cleanest with Euro VI Hybrid engines. The #3 and #68 are new routemasters and have Euro VI engines.
Some of the older buses #417, #432 and P13 with Euro V diesel engines are retrofitted with ad blue to reduce nitrogen oxides and thus to meet Euro VI standard.
Your Labour councillors are campaigning for all West Norwood buses to have clean engines. To support our campaign email Florence Eshalomi, our representative on the London Assembly Florence.Eshalomi@london.gov.uk
The council works with the Mayor on cleaning up London and helps to clean up our air by promoting electric cars & charging points, more cycling and more street trees. Householder need to rethink wood burning stoves too. And we can all campaign to make sure the Conservative Brexit keeps Europe’s tough pollution controls.

Rail fares up 27%
To start off the new year 2017 train fares have gone up another 2.3% since last year. The total increase in rail ticket prices since 2010 is 27% – far in excess of the inflation rate & wage increases.
In West Norwood the train situation is made worse by very poor services from Southern rail causing ever more misery & stress to commuters reliant on trains to get to & from work. For example during an hour this last Tuesday morning’s rush hour commuters said one train was cancelled and another doubly overcrowded as it had only 5 carriages instead of the normal 10 carriages.
The Southern rail situation is exacerbated by the government’s Transport Secretary cancelling plans, at the last minute, to transfer responsibility for running London suburban train services to Transport for London (TfL) and the Labour London Mayor.
Our MP, Helen Hayes, is a founding member of the newly formed All Party Parliamentary Group on Southern rail and campaigning for the government to remove the failing Southern rail service from Govia’s contract. You can help the campaign by recording your recent experiences of using Southern Rail in this short survey .

Labour party supporters
The latest leaflet from the local Labour party has a message from our new MP Helen Hayes and information about the Labour supporters scheme.
Labour’s registered supporters are people who support Labour’s aims and values and want to make it official that they back Labour.
Registered Supporters can also have a bigger say in the future of the Labour party both nationally and at a local level. So they can have an individual vote at future Labour Party leadership elections and Londoners can vote for Labour’s candidate for London Mayor.
