Letters from Lambeth council are going out to every household in the borough about the electoral register. If there are no change to the people listed it’s still important to confirm the details –easiest online or by text using the security codes in your letter. If you don’t confirm the names will come off the register after a while. People who are British, European, Commonwealth or Irish citizens are entitled to register to vote. Being on the electoral register also helps getting credit eg a credit card.

Any people new to the property or reaching age 17 must register individually – the easiest way is online at: https://www.gov.uk/register-to-vote

You can register to by post – but this is a slower two stage process.

The government has tightened up the rules making it harder for many people in Lambeth – especially those who move house a lot. This year a million people only just registered in time to vote in the general election in June. Many left it too late.

Helen Hayes re-elected

Following the June 8th general election our Labour MP for Dulwich & West Norwood is again Helen Hayes who received 39,096 votes, a massive 28,156 ahead of her nearest rivals. The Tories got 10,940, the Lib Dems 4,475 , the Greens 1,408 and two independents 121 & 103 votes. Candidates who get less than 5% of the total votes lose a £500 deposit.

In 2015 Helen was first elected to parliament with 27,772 votes and since then has gained an excellent reputation as hard working local MP.

The latest leaflet from the local Labour party has a message from our new MP Helen Hayes and information about the Labour supporters scheme.

Labour’s registered  supporters are people who support Labour’s aims and values and want to make it official that they back Labour.

Registered Supporters  can also have a bigger say in the future of the Labour party both nationally and at a local level. So they can have an individual vote at future Labour Party leadership elections and Londoners can vote for Labour’s candidate for London Mayor.
