ALDI planning application

aldi knights hil viewAldi have submitted a planning application to open a shop and car park on the corner of  Knights Hill and  Chapel Road SE27.

See the details and comment online quoting planning ref  “22/04095” at Lambeth Planning Portal

It is not likely to be approved as the site is in  Lambeth’s Key Industrial Business Area (KIBA) which only permits industrial work spaces (not retail uses) . It would also be a large retail unit outside the West Norwood shopping centre – its nearer to its competitor Lidl at Crown Point than Norwood Road’s shopping street.

Lidl appeal against Croydon planning refusal

Lidl site from Crown Lane

Lidl site from Crown Lane

In February 2015 Croydon council refused a planning application from Lidl to replace the former car showroom at the corner of Beulah Hill and Crown Lane. Croydon said Lidl’s plans were “ detrimental to the visual amenities of the streetscene, by reason of its unacceptable scale, appearance, siting, massing & overall design and insufficient landscaping & boundary treatment”

Lidl has now appealed against Croydon’s decision. You can comment on the appeal before Thursday 26th November by quoting ref 3087239 at the Planning appeal portal: http://www.planningportal.gov.uk/planning/appeals/online/search

Lidl gets thumbs down

Lidl applied to Croydon council for planning permission to turn the former car show room on Beulah Hill into a Lidl store. But the application was turned down  on 6th February . Croydon wanted the building to be smaller and fit in better with the Norwood Grove Conservation Area.  There are other concerns  about the lack of detail on managing traffic using the car park entrance on Crown Lane.

Lidl may appeal agains the Croydon decision  or re-apply with new plans. For details of the scheme quote ref  13/03146/P at http://planning.croydon.gov.uk/DCWebPages/AcolNetCGI.gov?ACTION=UNWRAP&RIPNAME=Root.PgeResultDetail&TheSystemkey=137755

Lidl at Crown Point

Former car showroom

Former car showroom

A planning application has been submitted to Croydon council by Lidl to open a store on the site of the former SG Smith Volkswagen car showroom on Beulah Hill.

Residents and local Croydon & Lambeth councillors are particularly concerned about the impact on traffic as Lidl’s trucks would be joining trucks for both the local Tesco and GKN builders merchants which are already causing difficulties on busy Crown Lane.
