ALDI planning application

aldi knights hil viewAldi have submitted a planning application to open a shop and car park on the corner of  Knights Hill and  Chapel Road SE27.

See the details and comment online quoting planning ref  “22/04095” at Lambeth Planning Portal

It is not likely to be approved as the site is in  Lambeth’s Key Industrial Business Area (KIBA) which only permits industrial work spaces (not retail uses) . It would also be a large retail unit outside the West Norwood shopping centre – its nearer to its competitor Lidl at Crown Point than Norwood Road’s shopping street.

The space has been empty for years so something need to be done also West Norwood does not have a proper supermarket so perhaps it’s a good idea

I do not support any large supermarket on this site.

West Norwood needs more light industrial workspace to maintain it’s vibrant nature and provide spaces for local skilled jobs ( not supermarket low paid ones) This area should provide KIBA workspaces.
Lidl on crown point and Sainsbury Brixton are not that far away. People are doing more and more of their large grocery shopping online (which is better for the environment). A larger supermarket could also impact on footfall of the smaller local ones. This could then impact on the footfall on the high street and have a negative impact on all the local business.
