Meeting on Streetworks project

Streetworks is the local community led project to improve the pavements and make West Norwood’s main shopping street more attractive to local people & visitors. https://www.streetworks.london/

Norwood Action Group has organised  a public meeting at 7pm on Monday 10th September at Chatsworth Baptist Church in Chatsworth Way SE27 9HN to look at the results of the Streetworks project  and the future of our shopping street. All welcome to come and have a say.

Town centres have always been retailing centres but the shift to online shopping means town centres are shifting towards more services to survive.  With many independents providing a wide range of services already West Norwood is in better position than many places to take action to ensure the town centre remains the heart of the local community.

If you can find it online  – Robert Peston’s 3 part History of Shopping is worth watching.

Spending developers contributions in West Norwood

postcardWhen the council gives planning permission for new buildings and developments –  developers provide the council with payments to fund local improvements. This money is called CIL (Community Infrastructure Levy).

To suggest the sort of priorities & projects this money should be spent on please complete this short online survey. The  deadline is 23rd December. Ideas for Norwood’s residential areas are particularly welcome.

The results from  other recent consultations –  West Norwood and Tulse Hill Masterplan refresh, Commonplace and  StreetWorks  will be taken into account. The conclusions will be published as  Norwood’s  Cooperative Local Investment Plan (or CLIP for short) in early 2017 and  inform investment decisions in the local area for the next three years.

For more information go to the story on the Lambeth council website. You can also download this leaflet: norwood-leaflet

Harpenden Road junction

Harpenden Road junction

After a series of workshops the community-led Streetworks project has drawn up detailed design plans to change and improve Norwood Road.

The plans include improving Station Rise in front of Tulse Hill station, widening the east pavement between Chestnut Road and Chatsworth Way, options on parking,  the Norwood Road entrance to Harpenden Rd becoming one way to allow for a new zebra crossing over Norwood Road, a diagonal crossing at York Hill/Lancaster Avenue and  levelling the side roads with the pavement at their junction with Norwood Road.

You can comment on the designs until Tues 19th July at:  http://www.lambeth.gov.uk/consultations/norwood-road

But why not visit the exhibitions on Saturday 25th June 2.30-5pm at the West Norwood Health & Leisure Centre in Devane Way SE27 0DF  or Wednesday 6th July 6.30-9pm at the Old Library 14 Knights Hill SE27 0HY ?

There is also a chance to comment on the designs at the West Norwood Feast market on July 3rd and the Country Show on 16th & 17th July.
