Thames Water close Ivymount Road

Ivymount Road SE27 is due to be closed to traffic for 6 weeks until just before Christmas so Thames Water can replace the water mains. See letter to residents here.

Later this month works will also start on new water mains under Royal Circus road which will be reduced to one lane of traffic. The 315 bus will continue to use Canterbury Grove and York Hill. In the new year 2022 Thames Water will close Pyrmont Grove for about 4 weeks. Thames Water hope to finish their water mains replacement project in the streets around Royal Circus by March 2022!

Traffic delays & 322 bus diversion

This week’s Thames Water road diversions include no right turn from Robson Road onto Norwood Road for larger vehicles, temporary traffic lights and one lane outside Tescos.

All larger northbound traffic from Robson Road, including the 322 bus, will turn left and go around the one way system past the bus garage.

The diversion starts on Monday 26th July for 5 days to Friday 30th July so Thames Water can do works at this road junction.  The works will include a few days waiting for the concrete to set hard enough to re-tarmac.

The Canterbury Grove closure remains in place with the 315 bus diverted via Crown Lane.  See our earlier post at  https://westnorwoodnews.com/2021/05/24/thames-water-delays/

315 bus diversion from Tues 28th May

Thames Water have changed their Norwood Rd plans so that from Tuesday 28th May the 315 bus can continue to run up York Hill as usual.

Only the RETURN journey to West Norwood will be the long way round via Leigham Court Rd , Crown Lane and Knights Hill. So the bus will not run eastbound from St Peters church via Canterbury Grove, Chartham Grove, Royal Circus & down York Hill.

This arrangement is due to last for 5 months until 23rd October.

A big thank you to everyone who sent back the councillors survey given out on the 315 bus and those who spoke to Thames Water at the public meetings. We have managed to persuade Thames Water that the 315 bus must keep running up York Hill as it is a lifeline for many people living near the top of the hill – and especially for bringing shopping home from West Norwood.

To contact Thames Water about any problems with their Norwood Road works please telephone 0800 316 9800 option 1 and quote BB279802.

71 day diversion from York Hill for 315 bus

315 going up York Hill

When Thames Water start digging up Norwood Road to lay  a new water main they plan to close York Hill and Lancaster Avenue for 71 days. The 315 bus will be on diversion the long way round to Leigham Court Road via Knights Hill and Crown Lane.

As well as taking passengers to Streatham the 315 is a vital lifeline to many older people living in the streets  around  the top of York Hill.  This part of the route is hail and ride and does not have bus stops with diversion information. Please mention this important change to the 315 bus service to any neighbour who relies on this bus to get to and from West Norwood.

Thames Water are now expected to start their road works just after the May bank holiday. They will post leaflets and hold public meetings as soon as they can confirm a start date.

The start date has slipped from the one in our earlier post 15/3/19

No change to 315 bus

Peabody Hill

Peabody Hill

Transport for London (TfL) have decided to drop the plans for a new route for 315 bus through West Norwood  as there was little local support  for the plans.

Last summer TfL consulted local people about extending the 315 bus to Peabody Hill & Trust Walk, a community of 250 homes, at the top of Birkbeck Hill SE21 . Of the 513  people who took part in the consultation  only 22% supported the new route.  174 of those who replied used the 315 bus which links West Norwood with Balham.

TfL said “We will consider other ways of improving access to Peabody Hill. Any proposals will take account of the issues raised in this consultation and will be subject to further consultation.”

For more information on the consultation see: https://consultations.tfl.gov.uk/buses/route-315
