Today Thames Water have packed up for Christmas leaving Norwood Road free of roadworks for a couple of weeks.
York Hill and Lancaster Aveneue are reopening so the 315 bus can return to its normal route both up and down York Hill.
Please do support our local shops – lots of things for Christmas – and free home deliveries by cargo bike https://stationtostation.london/cargobike/
Of course Thames Water will be back on 6th January for another 6 months. Details in this letter [pdf] to residents.
Thames Water have changed their Norwood Rd plans so that from Tuesday 28th May the 315 bus can continue to run up York Hill as usual.
Only the RETURN journey to West Norwood will be the long way round via Leigham Court Rd , Crown Lane and Knights Hill. So the bus will not run eastbound from St Peters church via Canterbury Grove, Chartham Grove, Royal Circus & down York Hill.
This arrangement is due to last for 5 months until 23rd October.
A big thank you to everyone who sent back the councillors survey given out on the 315 bus and those who spoke to Thames Water at the public meetings. We have managed to persuade Thames Water that the 315 bus must keep running up York Hill as it is a lifeline for many people living near the top of the hill – and especially for bringing shopping home from West Norwood.
To contact Thames Water about any problems with their Norwood Road works please telephone 0800 316 9800 option 1 and quote BB279802.

315 going up York Hill
When Thames Water start digging up Norwood Road to lay a new water main they plan to close York Hill and Lancaster Avenue for 71 days. The 315 bus will be on diversion the long way round to Leigham Court Road via Knights Hill and Crown Lane.
As well as taking passengers to Streatham the 315 is a vital lifeline to many older people living in the streets around the top of York Hill. This part of the route is hail and ride and does not have bus stops with diversion information. Please mention this important change to the 315 bus service to any neighbour who relies on this bus to get to and from West Norwood.
Thames Water are now expected to start their road works just after the May bank holiday. They will post leaflets and hold public meetings as soon as they can confirm a start date.
The start date has slipped from the one in our earlier post 15/3/19
Thames Water are shutting a small section of Canterbury Grove for a few days starting Thursday 13th September. The road closure means a diversion for traffic including the 315 bus.
The delayed road resurfacing works for Royal Circus are due Thursday 27th September for 2 days. The 315 bus will be diverted between 8am and 5pm.
When these roads are closed the 315 bus will be diverted up Knights Hill along Crown Lane and down Leigham Court Road.
See our earlier post 8/8/18
Royal Circus SE27 is due to be resurfaced on Thursday & Friday this week. And next week York Hill by Cambrian Close SE27 0BS is due to be closed for about 5 days from Monday 13thAugust for more water works .
Look out for road diversion signs and 315 bus diversions. When the roads are closed the 315 bus will be diverted up Knights Hill along Crown Lane and down Leigham Court Road.
Stop press: Royal Circus works now postponed for several weeks.
Transport for London (TfL) have decided to drop the plans for a new route for 315 bus through West Norwood as there was little local support for the plans.
Last summer TfL consulted local people about extending the 315 bus to Peabody Hill & Trust Walk, a community of 250 homes, at the top of Birkbeck Hill SE21 . Of the 513 people who took part in the consultation only 22% supported the new route. 174 of those who replied used the 315 bus which links West Norwood with Balham.
TfL said “We will consider other ways of improving access to Peabody Hill. Any proposals will take account of the issues raised in this consultation and will be subject to further consultation.”
