Developers have submitted another planning application to build seven bedsits and three 1-bed flats on the former workshops in Curnicks Lane SE27 0UT between Chapel Rd and Linton Grove.
You can see the plans & comment by inputting ref 20/04185/P20 at the Lambeth Planning portal. Deadline for comments is Wednesday 6th January.
This planning application is being made under the new brownfield site rules.
To be eligible for the new rules the site must previously have been in use as Class B1 (office, research or light industrial). Last month the developers submitted planning application 20/03846 to prove to the council that the last use of this site was light industrial (B1c).
The government is continuing to cut back on planning rules and give the council and local people less say over developers plans. This is one of the first planning applications in Lambeth made under the new brownfield site permitted development rights. If the developers submitted a standard planning application they would have to meet Lambeth’s agreed policies on minimum size of homes, children’s play space etc.

Admiral are in the slot machine business and have applied for planning permission to turn the empty Ladbrokes betting shop, on the one-way system at Tulse Hill, into an “adult gaming centre” for over-18s.
Both betting shops & adult gaming have the same planning use – “sui generis” – so there is no change of use.
What the planning decision will take into account is matters such as: an active shop front adding to the vibrancy of the area around Tulse Hill train station; any impact on transport; any impact on crime & anti-social behaviour; any impact on “amenity” or character of the area and immediate neighbours.

Over 20% of the adult gaming centres in the UK are part of Luxury Leisure Talarius which uses the Admiral brand. Admiral say they offer the ultimate gaming experience, showcasing the best casino and classic slot games available on both the most technologically advanced slot machines and traditional “fruit machines.”
Local Labour councillors from Thurlow Park ward have already objected to Admiral’s planning application.
If Admiral get the go-ahead they will also need to advertise when they apply for a gambling license. This licensing process gives local people 28 days to comment.

Dodbrooke – Hainthorpe corner
Developers were refused planning permission by Lambeth council to demolish the building at the corner of Hainthorpe Road SE27 0PL and Dodbrooke Rd and build a block 8 flats and 5-bedroom house.
The developer has asked the Independent Planning Inspector to review this decision.
To comment on the developer’s appeal you must submit comments or “representations” to the Planning Inspectorate by 5pm on Wednesday 2nd December. Log into the planning inspectorate website at https://acp.planninginspectorate.gov.uk and then search for the case using reference number 3259238.

Norwood’s Children Centre is up and running after lockdown with most activities now based at 18 Benton’s Lane SE27 9UD just off Gipsy Rd .
‘Stay and play’ and other face to face sessions are social distancing so you have to book your place on 020 3409 0704. Other “virtual” activities are one to one telephone calls and some group sessions are via facebook.

The Roman Catholic secondary school for girls on Central Hill SE19 1RS is planning to close in August 2021.
Admissions were suspended for year 7 students in September 2020. Year 8 , 9 & 11 students are attending the Virgo Fidelis site but Year 10 students are attending St Marys in West Croydon CR9 2EE
Virgo Fidelis no longer has a 6th form and pupil rolls have been falling recently – with a corresponding impact on school budgets. The Victorian buildings date back to 1848 and so are exepensive to repair.
Croydon council is consulting on the closure – to have a say fill in the form linked below before the deadline of Oct 23rd.

The council is looking for an organisation to take a 10-year lease on the One O’clock Club building in Norwood Park SE19 1EA (near the café off Salters Hill). The service must run at least three “stay and play” sessions a week for children under-five and their parent/carers.
