Helen Hayes, the newly elected Labour MP for West Norwood, holds regular advice sessions every second Friday of the month (except August) at 10am-11.30am  in West Norwood Leisure Centre , Devane Way SE27 0DF.

Other sessions take place (except August) every:

  • first Friday 12.30pm to 2pm at East Dulwich Community Centre, Darrell Road SE22 9NL
  • third Friday 10am – 11.30am at Brixton Advice Centre, 165-167 Railton Road SE24 0LU
  • and every fourth Friday 10am to  11.30am at Kingswood House, Seeley Drive SE21 8QN

Healthwatch Lambeth update

Come along to West Norwood Health and Leisure Centre in Devane Way (opposite the train station) SE27 0DF on Wednesday 10th June  6pm to 8pm to hear from Healthwatch Lambeth about the  work of the last year on the ‘transformation of primary care’ designed to mean we will need less hospital care in the future. Healthwatch Lambeth aims  to address inequalities in health and social care and ensure local services are appropriate for our diverse communities.

The event will include an update on the Prime Ministers Challenge Fund investment in 4 x 8-8 clinics, new tech  ways of getting a GP appointment, an update from a team of people with learning disabilities visiting pharmacies and an opportunity to have a say in the Lambeth DataNet database of anonymised health data from 340,000 patients registered at GPs in Lambeth.

Healthwatch Lambeth is part of a national network of local Healthwatch organisations working to ensure your voice counts when it comes to shaping and improving local health and care services, now and in the future.

London Marathon

The London Marathon is one of the great participatory sports events – this year on Sunday 26th April.  Our own West Norwood councillor, Sonia Winifred is entering the marathon for the first time in 2015. Sonia is running for  the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF ) https://www.jdrf.org.uk/.  JDRF is funding research to fund a cure for Type1 Diabetes which affects people of all ages including children and young adults. To stay alive people with Type1 diabetes rely on multiple daily insulin injections (or pump infusions) and finger prick blood tests.

West Norwood has its own walk-in GP surgery at weekends at least until the end of April 2015. Blossom runs Wildebeest Coffee Van , a mobile coffee shop, and she has coffee on sale in the West Norwood Health & Leisure Centre for  a trial period  between 9am and 3pm Monday to Thursdays. Also look out for the Wildebeest van at street markets  http://www.wildebeestcoffeevan.co.uk/

Weekend GP appointments

If you are already registered with Knights Hill just ring 020 3049 0700 to make an appointment. Helen Hayes and Tessa Jowell MP

After almost 25  years as our local Member of Parliament, Dame Tessa Jowell  will be stepping down at the next  general  election .  Tessa has been a fantastic local MP and has been very closely involved in many key issues in West Norwood, including the delivery of the new Health and Leisure Centre, the setting up of Elmgreen School and West Norwood Feast.

The local Labour Party selected Helen Hayes to be the Labour candidate in Dulwich & West Norwood at the general  election  on 7th May 2015.  Helen has lived locally for almost 20 years and has two small children who attend a local school. Helen has a background in town planning and urban regeneration and she is currently a councillor in the constituency. Monday 28th July is the opening day for West Norwood’s own leisure centre.The 100-station gym is due to open at 6.30am and the pool at 12 noon.

Labour’s Sonia Winifred says” This is brillant news for West Norwood. A swimming pool and gym on our doorstep! ”

Located in Devane Way SE27 0DF, opposite the West Norwood train station, the new centre is phasing its opening. For the first 2 weeks the pool will open to the public from 12noon to 8pm on weekdays and 10am to 3pm at weekends .The 100-station gym will be operate from 28th july 6.30am to 10pm. Exercise classes start from Monday 8th August.
