The Friends of Norwood Park successfully won a £44,000  to fund  an outdoor gym in the park off Salters Hill, West Norwood, SE19 1AR.

The Friends group says: “We hope as many locals and park users as possible will turn out to attend the official opening. The gym has only been open a few weeks but already it is a massive hit with local people. When the weather was good it was unbelievable how many people, especially school children, were using the equipment. We believe the gym will be a great facility for all park users. It will also enhance existing facilities in the park and what’s great about it is it is free to use. We would like to thank everyone who supported The Friends in this bid including Lambeth Council.”

Decide on future of West Norwood’s youth centre

Old Library

Old Library

Lambeth council has been working with a wide range of organisations on a co-operative approach to youth centres .

In West Norwood there will be an important event at The Old Library 14 – 16 Knights Hill, London, SE27 0HY Friday 25th May 6pm – 8pm

Local residents and groups are invited to take part in deciding which organisations are going to take over local youth sites and run them instead of the council. The meeting on 25th May has been arranged at The Old Library so that organisations can present their plans to the West Norwood community. Everyone at the meeting will judge each organisation’s plans and help decide which will run youth activities at The Old Library.

The West Norwood Feast is a people-powered market celebrating the diversity, talent and entrepreneurial skills in our neighbourhood. There’s plenty to see and do including the Gardeners’ Corner by York Hill where you can pick up seeds, plants and tools, the Artisans’ Market on Chatsworth Way with locally-made arts and crafts, a Food Fair at St Luke’s with stalls serving freshly-cooked street food and even a Retro Village by Roseberys on Knights Hill with a market for reused, recycled and remade furniture and clothes. More details are on the Feast website and on www.facebook.com/wnfeast.

Lambeth council will have a staffed stall at the West Norwood Feast with an exhibition of plans for the Norwood Hall swimming pool, gym and health centre – an opportunity to find out more about the scheme.

OFSTED inspect Crown Lane Primary

Crown Lane primary school had 2 days notice that a team from  OFSTED were coming to see the school in February. Last month OFSTED published their report that says  Crown Lane Primary School is a good school, providing a good education for its pupils. Under the dynamic leadership of the headteacher the school has improved significantly since its last inspection and most pupils make good progress. Teaching is consistently good and pupils have good attitudes to their learning.

Head, Ian HydeIan Hyde, headteacher at the school,  is very pleased with the inspection and that the excellent work at Crown Lane is recognised. The school has a strong  inclusive ethos where all children get individual attention through an exciting curriculum.

Any parents wishing to see the school are welcome to drop by  – after 11am on school days  – or phone 020 8670 4713 for an appointment.
