Developers want to build 32 new homes on the Tennis Club site at the corner of Cheviot Road & Knights Hill SE27 0SR. Due to the lack of open space and sports facilities locally –  Lambeth’s planning rules mean the tennis club must be retained as part of the new build.

More details of the management arrangements for the proposed new tennis club are now available on the council Planning database – quote ref  16/01650 at https://planning.lambeth.gov.uk/online-applications/ . 500-700 paying members are anticipated with courts open 10am to 9pm. A gym, squash courts & sports hall are also part of the plans.

Lambeth’s Planning Committee will meet on Tuesday 21st March 7pm at the Karibu Centre, Gresham Road SW9 7PH to make the final decision. THIS MEETING IS NOW POSTPONED.

Check out the details and comment, using ref 15/03867 at http://planning.lambeth.gov.uk/online-applications/

The fourth planning application 14/06822 was refused and the developers are appealing to the independent Planning Inspector to reverse Lambeth council’s decision. The arguments for and against the council decision will be heard in public by the Planning Inspector on Tuesday 4th August from 10am in the town hall in Brixton. Recent planning decisions

The application to develop the Tennis Club site at the corner of Cheviot Road ( see our post dated 23/1/15 ) has been recently refused by the council. The main reason for refusal was the negative impact on older people’s  homes in the Cheviot Gardens – now under construction. For details  see the Decision Notice for application 14/06822  via Lambeth Planning Portal http://www.lambeth.gov.uk/planning-and-building-control/planning-applications-and-policies/viewing-current-planning

The council also turned down  plans for the tyre shop site at the corner of Thurlow Park Road & Norwood Road ( see our post dated 8/9/2014). For details of the Decision Notice input 14/04151 to the Planning Portal. The planned 28 homes were considered to be too small with poor natural  light & not enough privacy.

Developers are holding an exhbition on Thursday 21st August of their latest plans for the Tennis Club site. Drop in between 7pm and 9pm  to the Tennis Club at 128 Knights Hill SE27 0SR – on the corner with Cheviot Road.

It is expected these plans will be submitted to Lambeth as a planning application very soon when there will be opportunities to comment formally. For details email:  sigmaplan@aol.com

An earlier planning application for 52 homes in a building up to 6 storeys high was rejected by the Planning Committee and by the independent Planning Inspector in 2013.

Sonia Winifred says ” If you are in London on 21st August do try to see these plans and talk to the developers about the new homes. The tennis club has been an irreplaceable resource for the community.”
