Royal Mail are struggling with post deliveries in recent weeks as omicron means many staff are sick or isolating at home.
Residents have contacted councillors about missed postal deliveries. If you are having delayed post please send us [jmeldrum@lambeth.gov.uk] your postcode so we can identify the neighbourhoods with delivery problems and take up with Royal Mail.
Thames Water are closing sections of Broxholm Road from January to March 2021 to install new water mains.
Their plan is to start by closing the section from Leigham Court Road to Glennie Road between the 25th January and 14th February. Residents in this section will have to park nearby whilst the road is closed. Due to delivery delays in Royal Mail post, Thames Water slipped the start date by one week to 25th January. See Thames Water letter [pdf] delivered to residents this week.
Over the next couple of months Broxholm Road will be closed to traffic in short sections, one section at a time.
These works are part of a programme of water mains replacements by Thames Water in most of the roads centred around Royal Circus.
Other local roads in the programme should be wide enough to allow for one lane to be kept open controlled by traffic lights.
Additional road works in the neighbourhood will cause more disruption.
Gas mains are being replaced , starting with Ullswater Road – see our post dated 10/1/21.
Leigham Court Road will be closed for two days at its junction with Streatham High Road on 3rd & 4th February. The 417 bus will be on long diversion via the main roads.
Your local councillors are discussing the details of the scheme with Lambeth Highways team and the utility companies. We will update you when more information is available. Please email Cllr Pickard with any queries or comments: jpickard@lambeth.gov.uk
To support the local campaign to keep the Royal Mail sorting office & parcel pick up point for SE27 in SE27 please join Helen Hayes at a protest this Saturday 9th September – at 2.30pm outside 4 Windsor Grove SE27 9LS.
This is our last chance, following on our petition and protest in April, to tell Royal Mail we want to keep the SE27 sorting office local and in SE27! Royal Mail are due to make a final decision this month on whether to move the SE27 sorting office to Blenheim Road SE20 8AA 19 near Penge.
Royal Mail wants to close it sorting office at Windsor Grove SE27 9LS for SE27 addresses and move it into the Anerley office at Blenheim Road SE20 8AA. Increase in email means many fewer letters and the increase in on-line shopping means many more parcels are delivered to our homes. So Royal Mail is looking at bigger & fewer sorting offices and selling off the smaller ones.
Our local MP Helen Hayes & Cllr Jackie Meldrum met with Royal Mail to try to persuade them to keep the SE27 sorting office open. Moving it several miles away to SE20 in Anerley is much too far away. Royal Mail says the nearer sorting office at 20 Westow Hill SE19 3RS is just too small to take all the SE27 post.
Most of us use the sorting office to pick up parcels or registered letters delivered when no–one was at home. But Royal Mail do not have to consult us when they make changes to their sorting offices.
Royal Mail do have to consult their staff on changes and are currently talking to the CWU union. The union have set up a petition for people opposed to SE27 losing its local sorting office & parcel collection point. 1500 people have signed already. Online Petition
