New bus route along the south circular road

Transport for London (TfL) is consulting on a new express bus route, the new  Superloop 15. The proposed route will run between Clapham Junction and Eltham stations, via Tulse Hill and Catford – basically following  the A205 south circular Road.  It will be a single decker to run under the low rail bridge over Thurlow Park Road, running every 10-12 minutes. As a long distance Super Loop bus it will stop  less frequently than local buses.  The route proposed in our area are Streatham Place, Tulse Hill Hotel and Croxted Road, West Dulwich.

Gas leak closes Norwood Road

SGN engineers are still trying to find the source of the gas leak near Tulse Hill station SE27 today when 17 homes were evacuated.

In the meantime Norwood Road from Station Rise to Elmcourt Road is completely close to traffic and pedestrians. Traffic is diverted via the South  Circular and Lancaster Avenue.

#432 bus is diverted via Streatham to Crystal Palace.  #2 buses  stop at the Tulse Hill one way system.

No 3 bus route in central London

snipimage2Transport for London (TfL) is making Oxford Street more friendly for pedestrians and changes to bus routes.

Part of the plan means the No 3 bus will run between Trafalgar Square and Russell Square instead of going via Regent Street. The route between Crystal  Palace and Trafalgar Square stays the same.

Similarly the N3 bus will no longer go to & from Oxford Circus but run between Russell Square & Trafalgar Square and then the usual N3 route to  & from Bromley North.

For more details see: https://consultations.tfl.gov.uk/buses/bus-routes-3-137-and-n3/

The deadline for comments on the plan is Sunday 29th January 2017.

Fares up again

It wasn’t only the gloomy weather greeting commuters at West Norwood Station Tuesday  morning, but also higher fares.  Fares on London’s public transport, are rising again, by 5.6% overall,  as people head back to work after the New Year break.

Local Labour councillors were at the station this morning handing out fliers as part of the Labour Party’s Fare Deal campaign. 2012 is an election year for the Mayor of London and London Assembly members.  The cost of public transport is set to be a key election issue with The Labour Candidate, Ken Livingstone, promising to cut fares if he is elected in May.  In contrast, a single bus ticket is up 50% and a weekly zone 1 – 4 travel card is up 21% under the current Conservative Mayor.

Oyster bus fare are now  £1.35 ( £2.30 if you pay cash) . Peak time zone-3 oyster rail ticket up 6.9% to £3.10 (£4.30 if you pay cash) . 7-day zone-3 travel card up 6.2% to £ 34.20
