The old tree at the top of Ladas Road was damaged in the recent storms and falling branches broke a garden fence.Local residents asked the Labour Action team for help in clearing up the damage.
Lambeth Living is responsible for this patch of land and trees so Sonia Winifred & Jackie Meldrum, members of the Labour Action team, asked Lambeth Living to clear up the mess and check the remaining tree can survive more strong winds.

Jane Pickard & Sonia Winifred at proposed Lidl site
Lidl applied to Croydon council for planning permission to turn the former car show room on Beulah Hill into a Lidl store. But the application was turned down on 6th February . Croydon wanted the building to be smaller and fit in better with the Norwood Grove Conservation Area. There are other concerns about the lack of detail on managing traffic using the car park entrance on Crown Lane.
Lidl may appeal agains the Croydon decision or re-apply with new plans. For details of the scheme quote ref 13/03146/P at http://planning.croydon.gov.uk/DCWebPages/AcolNetCGI.gov?ACTION=UNWRAP&RIPNAME=Root.PgeResultDetail&TheSystemkey=137755

Last November Lambeth council gave planning permission for a family friendly bar and restaurant at 294-296 Norwood Road -in the site of This That and The Other store. Taking account of the flats above and nearby, the maximum opening hours were set as 9am to 11pm Sunday to Thursday and 9am to midnight on Friday and Saturday.

Diabetes is usually thought of as a disease for older people but it can strike young people too. Sonia Winifred became involved with Diabetes UK when her teenage daughter was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. With no local support for families and with help from Diabetes UK, she set up a local self help group to support families with young people living with diabetes. The group has grown into Diabetes UK Lambeth Lewisham and Southwark Family Support Group of which Sonia is Vice-chair. For more information see http://www.lslfamilysupportgroup.diabetesukgroup.org/home/home.asp or email email@example.com
Sonia is also a Diabetes UK Community Champion in Lambeth working with black and minority ethnic communities where diabetes is more common. People from African and Caribbean communities are up to 3 times more at risk of developing diabetes and people from South Asian Communities are up to 6 times more at risk of developing diabetes. One in five people are unaware they have the condition.
Sonia’s role as a Community Champion is to help people recognise the signs of diabetes and to encourage them to go for health checks. Early diagnosis is vital to reduce the risk of complications For more information contact firstname.lastname@example.org
Sonia is also a member of the Lambeth Labour Action Team in West Norwood.

A local estate agent, Pedders Property, is behind new plans for the former Nat West building on Norwood Road. To see the details look at Lambeth’s Planning web site http://planning.lambeth.gov.uk/online-applications/ and quote refs 13/04568 and 13/04569:
The site currently has A2 planning use which covers banks, estate agents and other money services. If another estate agent wants to open up in West Norwood it must mean there are more people wanting to move into the neighbourhood!
