The council is starting to update the 2009 master plan for West Norwood. A consultation programme is being planned for the new year.
The plan will cover our main shopping streets and the industrial area, south of West Norwood station, known to town planners as the KIBA (key industrial and business area).
Residents do raise concerns about the range of shops in Norwood Road making up the heart of West Norwood town centre. Online shopping is the latest factor impacting on town centres across the UK. For a brilliant history of shopping have a look at Robert Peston Goes Shopping TV programme- its on iplayer for a short while: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b039q44y/episodes/player

Last week planning permission was granted by Lambeth councillors to turn the derelict( near Wolfington Road junction) shop at 13-19 Knights Hill into a new pub.
Max Alderman of Antic Ltd (www.antic-ltd.com ) says it will be called Knowle’s of Norwood after the name of the original shop on the site. Knowle’s of Norwood will be a day and evening, family friendly, bar and restaurant similar to Jam Circus in Brockley – another area in south London popular with families.
The pub is expected to open in late February/March 2010 . The next step is to apply to Lambeth council for a licence which will be advertised for 28 days and then be decided at a meeting of the Licensing Committee. Watch this web site for details.
Jane Pickard & Emmaus staff outside the proposed new pub
The derelict shop at 13-19 Knights Hill, between Emmaus and the new Ladbroke’s betting shop , applied for planning permission to become a bar-restaurant in summer 2008. The final decision will be made on Wednesday 16th December 2009 at Lambeth’s planning committee at 7pm in Lambeth Town hall . For details of the committee papers see: http://tinyurl.com/yah4558
These meetings are open to the public who may speak in favour or against the proposals.
The shop has been derelict since it was last used as a Job Centre about 10 years ago. The owners plan a pub similar to Westow House at 79 Westow Hill, The EDT in Lordship Lane and Jam Circus in Brockley Road. See their web site for details : http://www.antic-ltd.com.
