Astroturf for Norwood Park

Ball court Norwood Park

Ball court Norwood Park

The tarmac ball court in Norwood Park , by Elder Road, is due to get an upgrade to astroturf. An artificial grass surface means the ball court can be used as a pitch for competitive junior and adult football matches and training for other sports.

The council has set aside £150k to invest in sport facilities in Norwood Park. Following talks with the Football Association, Friends of Norwood Park, The Norwood School and local community sports clubs there are 2 alternative options. One option is for a junior sized pitch 97.4m x 52m and the other for a full sized pitch 106m x 70m.

A meeting on  Monday 1st June at 6:30pm at Norwood School, Crown Dale SE19 3NY will review the 2 options. Come along to find out more about the project.

This Friday , 11th May at 3pm, football legend Tony Cottee is to officially open the Outdoor Gym in Norwood Park.

The Friends of Norwood Park successfully won a £44,000  to fund  an outdoor gym in the park off Salters Hill, West Norwood, SE19 1AR.

Sky Sports pundit Tony Cottee, who played for West Ham and England, will open the gym at 3pm and there will be a personal trainer on hand to give advice about how to best use the equipment.

The gym includes basket ball and table tennis, along with exercise equipment from a fitness bike to a shoulder press. The aim is for it to be used by young and old alike to improve health and fitness.

The Friends group says: “We hope as many locals and park users as possible will turn out to attend the official opening. The gym has only been open a few weeks but already it is a massive hit with local people. When the weather was good it was unbelievable how many people, especially school children, were using the equipment. We believe the gym will be a great facility for all park users. It will also enhance existing facilities in the park and what’s great about it is it is free to use. We would like to thank everyone who supported The Friends in this bid including Lambeth Council.”
