Councillor Jackie Meldrum said: “We’ve had lots of interest in the naming of this brilliant new centre. Now we want as many people as possible to have their final say. The health and leisure centre is really taking shape now and once completed it will give West Norwood a huge boost. As well as the health benefits for local people from having a sports centre so close to home, we expect to see benefits to trade and local businesses from those using the centre.”
The development off Knight’s Hill, opposite West Norwood Rail Station, is due to open in late spring 2014. The new centre will have a 25m swimming pool, 100 station gym, dance studio, local GP practice, dentistry services, a Lambeth council customer service point and a community room.
Everyone has the chance to help choose a name for the fantastic new resource for the community of West Norwood.
West Norwood’s own leisure & health centre will include a 25m pool, 100 station gym, dance studio, meeting room , GP surgery and clinics . Building work is due to complete in just over one year’s time at the site on Devane Way – opposite West Norwood Rail station.

Work should be completed in the next 2 months on the final details of the plans for the new leisure centre and health centre for West Norwood on land at the end of Devane Way off Knights Hill opposite West Norwood station. The new government has confirmed its support earlier this year for the funding but the Treasury has just added another step to check the project.
It is hoped that this new hurdle will not add any significant delays so construction work can start early in 2012. Work is already in underway to tackle the Japanese knotweed on the site as this weed can grown through concrete! (Building work will be starting on the nearby new primary school in October.)
