West Norwood will soon have Lambeth’s first Older Persons Shared Ownership (OPSO) housing in Lambeth. The scheme allows existing owner occupiers to buy 75% of their own independent flat with options for extra care only if required. OPSO can suit older people wishing to downsize but stay in their local area. Owner occupiers are not eligible for rented council or housing association sheltered housing.
There will be 9 one-bed and 9 two-bed flats for shared ownership in the new Cheviot Gardens SE27 0SU, due to open early in 2016. For details see: http://www.nottinghillhousing.org.uk/shared-ownership/homes-for-sale/cheviot-gardens-se27#overview

Work has started on the demolition of the Cheviot Gardens older people’s housing blocks. Residents worked with Notting Hill Housing Association to design the new scheme which as well 84 new homes for older people , including 18 for ownership/sharedownership, will become a community hub for older people in the West Norwood area. The centre will provide services such as cafe, hairdresser, activity room and a room for special events. It is due to complete in 2015. The council is working on plans with residents of Cheviot Gardens sheltered housing and Notting Hill Housing Trust to replace the unsuitable current homes. The new scheme incorporates gardens, restaurant, hairdresser, laundry with a mix of homes built to “extra-care” standard for people aged over 55 to rent and some to buy.
To see the plans drop in at Cheviot Gardens SE27 0SU ( next to the Tennis club) on Wednesday 29th August between 1pm and 8pm . Designers will be there to answer questions & hear your views.
A planning application will be made soon and this will give a further chance to comment on the proposals.
