Knights Hill reopen today

Traffic running normally today

Traffic is flowing northwards along Knights Hill again today. Shops in West Norwood are open for business – just in time for last-minute Christmas shopping in our local shops.

Previous closure

Due to a burst watermain last Sunday the road was closed causing massive disruption to residents and businesses.  Northbound buses were diverted by Streatham Common and Streatham High Road as Leigham Court Road was also closed due to a burst water main!  Homes had no water supply for several days.

To apply for compensation from Thames Water see: https://stationtostation.london/claim-your-road-works-compensation/

Please let us know how the watermain burst and / or the road closure affected you or your business – email jmeldrum@lambeth.gov.uk

Councillors will be meeting Thames Water early in the new year to agree on improvements for dealing with emergency road works and to demand Thames Water invests more in its mains pipes.

West Norwood has already had years of disruption from Thames Water installing new mains in Leigham Vale and Norwood Road.  See our many earlier posts including : 23/1/2019 7/2/2017

Burst water mains

Burst on Knights Hill in January

Why have so many of Thames Water’s water mains burst this winter? Find out at a meeting on Tuesday 25th April at 7pm at Karibu Centre, 7 Gresham Road SW9 7PH (by Brixton Police station) .

Councillors will be questioning representatives of Thames Water about the causes and effects of recent bursts in West Norwood and other parts of Lambeth . And how Thames Water responded to residents and businesses affected by flooding. They will also consider the longer term plans for maintenance and investment in the water mains network. The meeting will begin with an informal surgery-type session from 6-7pm when members of the public can speak with councillors.

All welcome to attend. The agenda papers will be published in the week prior to the meeting at:

This investigation is part of a London-wide scrutiny approach involving several boroughs and the Greater London Assembly’s Environment Committee, which is expected to result in a joint report with a series of recommendations.
