Decision on Tennis Club site

Tennis club site

Developers are making a sixth attempt to build flats on the site of the West Norwood Tennis club. The council has turned down their plans 5 times and each time the developers have appealed to the Independent Planning Inspector who supported the council.

The council is likely to recommend accepting the sixth version of the plans (including 32 new homes, a gym, squash & tennis courts) to the Planning Committee on Tuesday 20th June 7pm at the Karibu Centre, Gresham Road SW9 7PH.

Local councillors and a group of residents remained opposed to the plans . Many people want to keep tennis courts on the site but think the proposed tennis club may be too small to be financially viable. As the development is car-free there are also concerns that extra parking by new residents & any club users will add to the pressures of parking in Cheviot Road and nearby streets.
