Station ticket offices to close

West Norwood station

The rail companies have plans to close Ticket Offices at most stations across the country. The plan is for multi-skilled station staff to provide “Ticket Assistance” instead -and help travellers use the ticket machines. Our local nearby stations: West Norwood, Gipsy Hill,  Streatham Hill, Tulse Hill will all be affected. Ticket Offices at major stations like Victoria, Waterloo & Clapham Junction are also to be closed.

Train ticket offices to go

17265161021_57f7528f71_zOur local rail station ticket offices are to close down  June – September 2016 . Govia Thameslink Railway (GTR) says ticket machines will replace the ticket  office. Each of our stations has 2 ticket machines and there are no plans to increase the number of ticket machines.

They will also employ  a “Station Host” to assist people travelling. The promised “Host” hours at  Streatham Hill, Tulse Hill & West Norwood stations are:

Mon-Sat 5.30am to 10pm and Sundays 7am to 10pm .

Gipsy Hill station “Host” hours will start 30 mins later on weekdays. Saturday is not mentioned!

London Travel Watch is organising the consultation on these changes. Email your comments to: enquiries@londontravelwatch.org.uk, with ‘GTR ticket office changes’ in the subject line before midnight on Sunday 13th  March 2016.

London Travel Watch will review all comments received, and will make a recommendation to the Department for Transport based on these and other information received
