Transport for London (TfL) has begun a 2-year roadworks project to improve safety along Streatham Hill and the top of Brixton Hill.
Key works
- Removal of the central reservation on Streatham Hill (Aug to Oct 2025).
- Installation of a 2-way protected cycle lane from Sternhold Avenue to Holmewood Road.
- Upgrades to pedestrian crossings, junctions, and continuous bus lanes.
- New street trees for added shade.
The aim is to reduce accidents and make the area safer for pedestrians and cyclists.
Travel impact:
- The A23 (London to Brighton road) will remain open to road traffic but with lane closures.
- Nights of 3rd & 4th August, Sunday & Monday, A23 closed 10pm to 5am.
- Expect longer journey times through Streatham Hill for next two years to 2027.
