Crystal Palace Sports Centre

Have a say on the future of the sports centre [http://www.better.org.uk/leisure/crystal-palace-national-sports-centre#/ ] in Crystal Palace Park. With the new Olympic sports facilities at Stratford the London Mayor is working on future plans for a smaller Sports Centre in Crystal Palace Park. Plans being considered include demolishing the indoor and outdoor athletics tracks and shifting the 25m learner pool to the diving pool. The 8-lane 50m pool will be retained and the main sports hall for up to 40 different sports. The future of more specialist facilties like squash courts and the sports physio clinics will depend on demand. There are proposals to build a new primary school by the athletics track and rebuild Capel Manor, the horticultural & animal husbandry college.

To find out more visit the exhibition in the foyer of the Sports Centre, Ledrington Rd SE19 2BB between Monday 13th October and Friday 31st October. To speak to people involved in the project come to the Sports Centre on Thursday 16th October 5pm to 6pm or on Saturday 18th October 9.30am to 5pm.

  • the audit should include  but is not limited to public sector, faith, educational, cultural, private and voluntary sector run spaces
  • the footprint/size/capacity of the facility that is available for use by community and voluntary sector organisations
  • when it is available for use
  • how it is currently used (including non community uses e.g. religious, private parties, education)
  • the cost of hire
  • type of facilities on offer
  • governance and management arrangements
  • Disabled access to facilities
  • examination of the previous users of the Nettlefold Hall and what their need for space is

If you are interested in being considered to carry out this work, please provide a brief method statement setting out your approach, along with associated costs. This should be sent to info@norwoodforum.org.uk, to be received no later than 5pm on Friday 14th December. York Hill play area

York Hill Playground

Mike Smith at the re-opened York Hill play ground

The children’s play ground on York Hill has now been repaired and re-opened.

This popular play area has unfortunately suffered from vandals who selfishly spoiled a valuable community facility and forced the council to close it down until the money could be found to carry out necessary repairs.

Mike Smith of the West Norwood Labour action team says “I am very pleased to see the play ground has opened at last  – just in time for the warmer weather.  Many residents have been disappointed at the closure of the  playground and we have kept chasing Lambeth Living to get the work done.”

New local play grounds are nearly completed on Eden Road, Franklin Close and Lakeview Road. Plans  are underway for a new playground in Streatham Common (by the paddling pool) and a water playground  in Norwood Park.

To report vandalism and other anti social behaviour you can phone Sgt  Matt Cox and the local Safer Neighbourhood Police on 020 87212618 or 07920 233844. Or in office hours call Lambeth’s Anti-Social behaviour hotline 020 7926 4000 – you don’t need to give your name or address.
