Obsolete phone boxes

Obsolete phone box on Norwood Road

BT has installed hundreds of public phone boxes in our borough but most are now just cluttering our streets. Few public phone boxes are required as nearly everyone has a mobile phone. The old boxes are vandalised , dirty and their main current purpose is to carry advertising. BT are proposing to replace some of the obsolete phone boxes with a New York style kiosk – for gigabit wi-fi enabling free phone calls, mobile charging & downloading. The kiosks include advertising to bring in an income.

Proposed InLinkUK kiosk

The first InLinkUK kiosk proposed for West Norwood would replace the obsolete box outside Knowles at 294 Norwood Road SE27 9AF.
