From Saturday 1st October use of the Recycling Centre in Vale St SE27 9PA will be limited to Lambeth residents.
The Centre costs the council £286k per year to run & dispose of the recycling materials. The disposal cost for wood is £70 per tonne and £37 per tonne for green garden waste.
Its estimated that at least 20% of the current users of the Recycling Centre are not Lambeth residents and that nearly 10% of are commercial traders.
From 1st October 2016 only residents able to produce ID with a Lambeth address, eg a council tax bill or driving licence, will be permitted to use the Recycling Centre.
A wide range of items can be recycled at Vale Street including metal, wood, textiles, batteries, fridges, electrical items, light bulbs . For details see: http://www.lambeth.gov.uk/places/lambeth-reuse-and-recycling-centre-vale-street
The Recycling Centre is open 8am to 5pm weekends and 7.30am to 4.30pm Mondays, Thursdays & Fridays. Its closed on Tuesdays & Wednesdays.
What a load of rubbish! I live on the Lambeth / Croydon border, the tip is about a quarter of the distance as the Croydon one but they want me to drive the extra miles? Great for the environment and congestion. Lol
The disposal cost for wood is £70 per tonne and £37 per tonne for green garden waste. Wood can be used as fuel and garden waste turned in to compost. I think some auditing needs to be done on those numbers. They should be working out how the facility can make money then invite people from other boroughs to use it.
