Snow wardens wanted!

Icy Streets

Icy Streets

Winter weather is on its way and local  Snow wardens will be helping keep our local streets clear of ice and snow .

The council is hoping to recruit an additional 100 volunteers this year and have two training/introduction sessions planned for next week. Residents take control of clearing snow from the pavement of one side of their own street or part of a street. making a  safe passage for everyone – older and disabled people in particular. You get proper training in how and when to spread the grit and are given a shovel, grit and gloves. .

Snow wardens  have been a great success over the past two winters especially in Norwood’s hilly streets . The council’s own gritters have hundreds of streets to clear and have to prioritise the main roads.

Existing Snow wardens will be getting a top up of grit in in time  for  the expected cold weather at the end of this week. If you are interested  in becoming a Snow Warden email  Richard at reasthope@lambeth.gov.uk
