Lambeth council wants to phase out the use of glyphosate (or Roundup) from April 2021. While trying out non-herbicide methods of weed control this summer 2020 (corona virus permitting) the council will continue its normal weed control programme.
In the meantime if any group of residents wants to weed their street and keep it glyphosate-free this summer please get in touch before the end of Sunday 5th April using this online form: https://forms.lambeth.gov.uk/GLYPHOSATEOPTOUT/launch

Whilst I welcome the reduction of use of glyoposhate, I wonder of it’s necessary to keep our pavements weed-free, particularly at this time I think people appreciate pavement weeds, and they should not all destroyed. Rather we should to encourage people to appreciate them and their histories – plants from many, if not most, parts of the world can be found on our pavements. Let’s celebrate, rather than destroy them! I’m sure that when conditions allow the South London Botanical Institute in Norwood Rd, and others will be happy to lead celebrations.
