Ernest Avenue closure

Ernest Avenue

Ernest Avenue

There are frequent complaints about the poor state of Ernest Avenue  – in front of Norwood bus garage . So its great news that work is starting on rebuilding the surface of this road on Monday 29th July.

To enable the surface to be properly rebuilt Ernest Avenue will be closed from 29th July and the St Lukes church gyratory extended with traffic diverted one way  down Rothschild Street. The engineers expect the works to take 3 months. Arrangements have been made for businesses and residents needing access to Ernest Avenue whilst it is closed to traffic. The bus stop at the side of the bus garage for buses going south up Knights Hill will be temporarily moved to Rothschild Street at the back of the bus garage. Buses going north will temporarily no longer stop outside the bus garage but pick up at St.Julian’s Farm Road bus stop (except for the 68 which picks up at West Norwood rail station).

Councillors Jane Pickard and Jackie Meldrum spoke with businesses on the diversion route last week and saw the marked up temporary bus stop and bus stands on Rothschild Street.

If you want to discuss access arrangements please email Ian Neville, the project engineer in charge of these works at ineville@lambeth.gov.uk
